History

We formed Trinket Studios in 2012 to make "small games with big character" Our first two mobile titles, Color Sheep and Orion's Forge, epitomized that ethos, but we soon realized we craved a bigger kitchen.

With that, we set to work on our "cooking show meets fantasy RPG" game, Battle Chef Brigade. We weren't really sure how the game would play, per se, but we knew the ambition we wanted to pursue: to make a charming, polished, story-rich, character-first experience with approachable mechanics but engaging design. Like any good culinary showdown, the path from our outset to the final product was not the one we anticipated, but we did learn to let the characters and world inform the gameplay -- a dash a brawler here, a pinch of match 3 there, and voila! It's been a blast seeing players engage with our culinary-inspired genre fusion, but for our next title we wanted a change of scenery. We still felt like we could tell a bigger story without losing the crafted charm of our small team.

In 2018, we began to consider what would be next. We've grown to be big fans of digital card games and we thought that a card battler would give us a bigger canvas for an even wider array of characters than we had in BCB. Several iterations of card games came and went – some featured hex tiles, others sported a grid based arena and movement cards – but none of them quite clicked. In retrospect, we should've known that omitting narrative and characters from the early prototype equation would leave us in a muddle. Then the pandemic years hit, and without the ability to discuss in person, we found it almost impossible to continue experimenting on our design. We spent the stay-at-home years embedded remotely in a larger indie team and left in 2022 itching to get back to what would become Battle Suit Aces. This time, however, we knew we had to build on the recipe that led us to create BCB. We lead with vibrant and charming characters and pair with a mélange of approachable gameplay systems from multiple genres. We can’t wait for you to try our sci-fi, card battling, RPG blend.
